IE is the long dominant player on the browser world. This is now being
challenged by Firefox which has surpassed the 1 million mark download
in 10 days.
Mozilla Foundation has released Firefox 1.0 web browser as Microsoft
announced abandonment of IE development. I believe nobody would care
about Microsoft abandoning IE as long as the other browsers such as
Firefox delivers.
From a developers perspective, JavaScript
development would be easier as there would be no need to detect which
browser does the client use. Yes there is W3C that defines the
standard, but as long as there’s competing browsers, each of them would
put some extra features that the other does not support. Some
developers would find these extra features handy that would require
adding extra codes in JavaScript just to handle the other main browser.
Now with Firefox getting an overwhelming warm reception, it
is also now being scrutinized by security experts and malicious
hackers. Well, let them find the problems!
So now the focus is on Firefox. But, what is Firefox compared to IE? (to be continued)
